Having acquired more education, the logics why I like this manual are multifaceted. According to lore, Fromm is located on the “soft” side of the psychology spectrum. Rendering over some of his hopes – it is clear to see he was ahead of his time and rabbles can rationalize his work as they seem fit. The ideas he acknowledges in this pioneering work have allowed me to gain greater insight into human evolution. Oh ya, he also defines the meaning of life… Excerpts “The essential roots of modern industrialism, its economic construction and its spirit, [are found] in the economic and social footing of Essential and Western Europe and in the doctrines of Luther and Calvin.” “We must remember what has been said about the nature of this doubt: it was not the rational doubt which is rooted in the freedom of thinking and which resists to query established views. It was the irrational doubt which springs from the segregation of powerlessness of and individual whose attitude toward the world is one of mistrust and prejudice.” “The ‘autogenous’ in the intrigue of which modern brother enacts is the social autogenous, a autogenous which is essentially constituted by the game the individual is supposed to play and which in sensibility is merely the subjective disguise for the unprepossessed social responsibility of brother in group.”
