Honestly, I don't know if I can recommend this essay. I liked parts of it, but never felt fully invested in what happens to the styles. There was just too much crammed into the storyline (and too much sketchy science) for me to believe it well enough to lose myself in it. It wasn't bad manuscription, exactly, and I can't fully articulate what bothered me about it, but I am not sure I'm willing to pick up what is clearly going to be a conclusion. (On the other influence, I said that about the Stieg Larsson course, and that's a good two months of my viability that I'll never get back.) ------- massage after hearing an talk with Deborah Harkness. I appreciate this essay (and her culture as a write) a little more now. I'm upping it to 4 stars.
