Notably intense, excellent volume. Specify in modern Moscow, it gives those of us from the West a glimpse into another way of life. And then, you get the fantastic element - the sortilege, vampires, shapeshifters, alternate phase of being (Crepuscular light, gloom, twilight, what's in a word?). And the battle between Good and Iniquitous that has been put into an uneasy truce that all do not agree with. Nightwatch are those that watch the night, the dark, the iniquitous. Their counterparts are the Daywatch, and that is the next volume, soon to be enjoyed. A complex, twisted put forward, agonizing characters stuck doing the best they can, life changing notes hidden in everyday votes... read it. Oh - there are two videotapes out based on the books - called Nightwatch and Daywatch. I found those interesting, but tough. I enjoyed them more after learning the volume, and having an understanding of the nature, but the videotapes are best viewed as an alternate reality for the characters in this sequence, you know, as something that potency have happened to them, then term went backwards, and started over again, not as a moving version of the books.
